Over 140 rioters involved in recent unrest nabbed

TEHRAN - Iranian intelligence agents have apprehended upwards of another 140 rioters involved in the recent unrest in the country.

Authorities with the intelligence department of the southwestern province of Kohkiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad announced they had arrested and handed over to judicial authorities some 86 key operatives and leaders of the riots who had vandalized public property, harmed business owners, and fired shots at security forces.

According to the announcement, intelligence agents also arrested three key operatives behind riots in other provinces who had fled to the mentioned province.
Five guns, large amounts of ammunition, and dozens of Molotov cocktails were also seized from the detainees, added the report.
Meanwhile, the Intelligence Ministry announced that 56 ringleaders of riots involved in the unrest have been arrested in the northeastern North Khorasan Province based on tipoffs from the public.

The detainees had been involved in savage acts that resulted in the martyrdom of a local prosecutor and deputy police chief, as well as a number of security forces and ordinary citizens, according to the announcement.
The rioters had conducted attacks on state buildings, stormed a number of law enforcement offices to capture forces or steal weapons, and vandalized public property.

Several guns and explosives, as well as cold weapons and ammunition, were seized from the rioters.
